That's What She Said: Me Last Year

A year ago in July, I posted this to my facebook account. It felt like such a big deal that we had made it a year from finding out we were pregnant. Then Gunner started hitting all kinds of milestones, making this year go even faster than the last! So I guess this should really say "Dear Jaimie two years ago,".

And for the record, it only gets better and better.

Dear Jaimie one year ago,

I would love to write an entire letter but I have a 3.5 month old to love on so here are the main points:

1. You just found out today you are pregnant. Yay! You have planned cute ways to tell the grandparents that a little one is on the way. Skip that. Neither set understands what you are saying until you just tell them.
2. You will wait for that pregnant glow. It never comes. You do get shiny from sweating more and you swell up like you would not believe. But feeling that baby move in your tummy is so worth it!
3. Jump off that high horse of "when I'm a parent". The crap you judge other women for, you will do about 30 minutes after you leave the hospital. It is called survival mode and it looks good on no one.
4. Don't believe the stuff you see on movies about delivery. You don't pop out a kid and take cute family pictures while everyone has silent tears rolling down their cheeks. You do have pictures of your husband holding your child and you in the background grimacing while being sewn up. Precious memories.
5. They tell you some of the ugly stuff of recovering from child birth..they leave out how you turn into the sobbing, overwhelmed mess of a woman from the hurricane like flow of hormones. Luckily, your husband is too tired those first couple of months to move out.
6. For weeks you feed, clean, shush, and love on this thing that barely acknowledges you but the first time you hear that laugh, you are more proud than when you walked for your college diploma.

My point: You do not fall into motherhood gracefully. You do it wearing pajamas for days and crying..alot. But you make it, with the help of a man that is such a great daddy. The next year of your life is exhausting, heartburn filled, and scary but it also, by far, the best year of your life.

Ps. I will have a celebratory drink for you tonight since you can't!
